Seedstock: Growing Community Currency
Story by Tricia Edgar
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — You know the story, the one where you looked wistfully at that new gizmo-gadget at the mall, and your parents came out with the well-worn saying, “Money doesn’t grow on trees, dear.”
But what would happen if money did grow in your community, and what if it helped that community grow food as well? You’d have Seedstock, Vancouver’s newest currency, referred to as a community currency.
Seedstock made its debut last week, on January 17, 2013, in more than one of Vancouver’s stores and pocketbooks. More than 25 businesses are accepting the new currency, and more are joining every day.
